Orientalism:-
Dictionary meaning:-
Style, artefacts, or traits considered characteristics of the people's and cultures of Asia.
The representation of Asia in a stereotyped way that is regarded as embodying a colonialist attitude.
In art history, Literature and cultural studies, Orientalism is the imitation or depiction of aspects in Eastern world. These depictions are usually done by writers, designers, and artists from the West.
Orientalism is a 1978 book by Edward w. Said , he was a professor of Literature at Columbia University a public intellectual, and a founder of the academic field of post colonial study. His famous post colonial book is Orientalism.
In this book He discusses what is Orientalism and defined the West and East because most of people have assumed against some of countries so he tried to reveal that assume that present reality for countries. His more focused on post Colonial country. Because he believed Britisher colonialism is responsible for most of participation of most of Empire. Edward said was born in 1, November, 1935 and died in 25 September,2003 at New York.
In this interview the points are mainly covered are Introduction ( Montage of entertainment and news images , The Repertory of Orientalism , Orientalism and Empire , American Orientalism, Orientalism Today - The Demonization of Islam in the News and popular Culture, Orientalism in Action - The Media & the Oklahoma City Bomb , Orientalism and The Palestinian Question.
He gave two reason's for writing this book one it was an immediate thing, and second reason his personal life experiences. As a public intellectual, said was a controversial member of the Palestinian National Council, because he publicly criticized Israel and the Arab countries, especially the political and cultural policies of Muslim regimes who acted against the national interests of their people's.
Said advocated the establishment of a Palestinians in Israel, including the right of return to the homeland. Orientalism and Empire he said globalised we can say every country has their own history of any country to define as Orient we have knowledge of that country without knowledge we cannot give orientation of any country.
American Orientalism- Edward said defined difference of one notion like French is different from British. He said what is called the Orient.
