On 27 December 2019 Department of English we have workshop on Cultural Studies by research Scholar Dr.Kalyani Vallath.

What is Cultural Studies:-

Culture Studies is a field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis that concentrates upon the political dynamics of contemporary culture, it's historical foundations, defining traits, conflicts, and contingencies.


Introduction:-

Frist Ma'am said Cultural Studies best place is India. India in many culture. So in India Cultural Studies is interesting topic.

So many example give between lecture. So very interested study. I enjoy a lot . Cultural Studies is analysis of contemporary fields with specific parameter.


How many examples from the session were so catchy that you will never forget it?


Examples:-

Kalyani Ma'am shared own cultural advertisement (Kerala's Trakam powder  advertisement) , Kalyani Ma'am said about Cream , she give example of mineral water, and she talk about Kerala society or people or Gujarati Society or people . She talk about multicultural country like canada, India, USA.

Ma'am give example of F.R.Leavis, The Tempest by Shakespeare, Matthew Arnold "Cultural and Anarchy". Mulkraj Anand "College".  In this Character of Munna is like a monkey. People treating like animal.


If you are asked in interview to teach cultural Studies How would you introduce it?

Frist I say some basic information about Cultural Studies like what is Culture Studies and give information about important writer , and main concept of Culture Studies.

Thinkers:-

E.P.Thompson Define the social class as relationship. He studies document of working class people. Raymond Williams he against high notion of culture and he believes man live it is reality.

Stuart Hall his cultural studies most of belong to collaborate writing. He studied Culture is folding by encoding and decoding meaning.

Michael Foucault's he studies culture is depend on power and knowledge.

Raymond Williams he against high notion of culture and he believes man live it is reality. He studies on dominant culture.

• And onther talk various thinker contribute their ideas about culture studies but most of thinker thoughts are different from each other because of time changing society culture also change.

• This is reson culture Studies thinker are divided in two school Frankfurt school and New left school Frankfurt school They followed capitalism as well as orthodox Marxism ideas.

• New left School in this school critic partly reaction against orthodox, Marxism and communist party. Then talk about gay people, woman wright etc.

We inspired a lot by Kalyani Ma'am . Very easy and wonderful explanation to give . Very nice Language style and lot of knowledge give with example.
